ETHIOPIA: Catholic Hospital Receives  Medical Association Merit Award

ADDIS ABABA, FEBRUARY 22, 2019 (CISA)-St Luke Catholic College of nursing and Hospital has been awarded the 2019 Ethiopian Medical Association Merit Award.

The award was presented today February 22, 2019 to Fr Hagos Hayish, CM, Ethiopian Catholic Secretariat Secretary General and Rev. Sr. Clara Rosline the hospital’s General Manager in Addis Ababa by H.E. Dr. Amir Aman, Minister of Health during the association’s 55th Annual Medical Conference.

Speaking on the occasion, Fr Hagos noted that the Catholic Church,  through her 86 health institutions and rehabilitation centers, provides medical services in accordance to the Lord’s teachings in the Gospel.

He said the Catholic Church is able to provide these services to the communities all over thecountry thanks to the dedicated services of the religious men and women who come from different parts of the world following their calling.

He expressed the gratitude of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Ethiopia to all the religious congregations working in Ethiopia. he also thanked the Ethiopian Medical Association for the recognition, saying even though the greatest satisfaction comes from the seeing the smile of those we serve with God’s blessings, such an initiative is encouraging to all the religious and all the staff that are relentlessly working in the hospital.

He also took the opportunity to thank all the Doctors and medical professionals that provide voluntary medical services in various Catholic health institutions and rehabilitation centers.

Sr. Clara for her part also thanked the staff and all the partners of St. Luke’s for their unreserved services that have led to this recognition. “This achievement is the result of a combined effort of the Catholic Church in Ethiopia and all partners; I call on the continued support of all stakeholders so that we can provide even better service to our community,” she said .

St. Luke Catholic College of nursing and Hospital is located in Woliso town of Oromiya regional State in Eparchy of Emdibir. The hospital which has 200 beds serves more than 400 outpatients per day.
