ETHIOPIA: Ministry to Collaborate with Catholic Church in Peace Building

ADDIS ABABA, NOVEMBER 16, 2018 (CISA)-The newly established Ministry of Peace has expressed interest in working with the Catholic Church to foster peace in the country

“We hope that we can work closely with you in addressing some of the challenges our nation is facing and also assure you of our collaboration. We also appreciate that you have welcomed us to your Secretariat so warmly,” said Her Excellency Mrs. Muferiat Kamil, the Minister for Peace.

She was speaking November 13, at the Ethiopian Catholic Secretariat where she met Cardinal Souraphiel Berhaneyesus, Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Addis Ababa and other church officials.

The Minister of Peace, said that collaboration with religious leaders and their institutions is very important for her Ministry in its effort to bring about sustainable peace through building ethical and peace loving generation.

She explained that the visit was part of the effort to ask religious leaders to firmly continue supporting the peace building and national reconciliation process and also ask for their blessings as the new ministry begins its duty.

The Cardinal congratulated the newly appointed Minister of Peace and expressed his belief that the dedicated collaboration of the Ministry with all stakeholders such as religious leaders and their institutions will be crucial to the peace building process and bringing sustainable peace in the country.

The officials from the Peace Ministry further hailed the contribution and achievements of the Catholic Church in terms of producing morally strong citizens for the country through the Catholic schools and expressed their hope that the Church will enhance this success.

The ministry of Peace was formed in October 2018 to work on peace and rule of law in the country.
