KENYA: Bishops Elect new Office Bearers

NAIROBI APRIL 20, 2018 (CISA– The Kenya Conference of the Catholic Bishops (KCCB) have elected new office bearers for various Commissions and National offices.

The new officials elected during the bishops April Ordinary Plenary Assembly in Nairobi have a three years mandate to co-ordinate and implement all the activities which express the mission of the Catholic Church in Kenya.

In a list read by John Cardinal Njue the Archbishop of Nairobi at the end of the Ordinary Plenary Assembly on April, 13 the Bishop Philip Anyolo of Homabay has retained his position as KCCB Chairman and therefore he continues to be the Administrator of the KCCB-General Secretariat.

Bishop Obala Owaa of Ngong has also retained his position as the Vice Chairman of KCCB and has also been elected as the Chairman of the Catholic Justice and Peace Commission (CJPC) and Commission for Finance.

The Vice Chairman functions shall be to fill the office of the Chairman with all rights and duties when the Chairman himself is lawfully impeded.

Other commission chairs include: Commission for Development and Social Services/Caritas Kenya, Archbishop Martin Kivuva Musonde of Mombasa; the commission for Education and Religious Education, Bishop Paul Kariuki Njiri of Embu; Catholic Health Commission, Bishop Joseph Mbatia Nyahururu; Pastoral and Lay Apostolate, Archbishop Anthony Muheria of Nyeri; Social Communication, Bishop Joseph Obanyi of Kakamega; Commission for Doctrine, Bishop Peter Kihara of Marsabit; Litergy, Bishop Anthony Ireri Mukobo of Isiolo Vicariate; Commission for Missions, Bishop Joseph Alessandro of Garissa.

Bishop Maurice Muhatia Makumba of Nakuru is the Chairman of Seminary Episcopal and the Vice Chairman of the Commission for Finance, while Bishop Dominic Kimengich of Lodwar will head the Canon law National Office.
