ZAMBIA: Bishops, Government to Discuss Financial Challenges in Schools

LUSAKA, AUGUST 16, 2019 (CISA)– The Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) will engage the government on stalemate in schools due to inadequate, and late disbursement of government grants to schools.

This comes after the government directed all schools in Zambia to reduce fees, which has resulted in operational challenges in the schools.

Speaking at the official opening of school head teachers’ consultative meeting in Lusaka on Tuesday August 13, the Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) Director for Education, Bishop Charles Kasonde, said the conference would engage the government on the directive that all schools reduce fees.

“The pronouncement to slash school fees was done without proper guidelines on how to implement and execute it, a reason why the Catholic Bishops of Zambia want to engage the Ministry of General Education on the matter,” stated ZCCB.
