BAMAKO, NOVEMBER 21, 2014(CISA) – The annual pilgrimage to Kita by the Catholic Church in Mali has been postponed in order to curb the spread of Ebola virus.
The event was to take place from November 20 to 23 in Kita, the oldest parish in the country.
According to His Exc Mgr Jean Zerbo, Archbishop of Bamako they postponed the pilgrimage because they could not handle the situation at sanitary level as well as the travel of 10,000 people for three days.
“It is not possible, we cannot do it. For this reason we have decided to postpone it. By praying and changing behaviour, we can reduce this scourge,” said the Archbishop.
Mali is one of the countries affected by the Ebola Virus that has spread in West Africa. The first case in the country was reported on October 27.
