NAIROBI AUGUST 21, 2015(CISA)-Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya and South Sudan Archbishop Charles Balvo has said that Catholicism in Africa will grow further over the years if the Church continued to invest in the youth.
“Nearly thirty years ago I lived in West Africa and the last two years in Kenya and I also travel often to South Sudan. There are very good and strong signs of the growth of the Catholic Church here especially in the large number of the young ones joining the Church,” Archbishop Balvo told CISA after celebrating mass today at St Mary’s School Msongari grounds in Nairobi.
The mass was part of the 3-day celebrations of the Golden Jubilee of Vatican II Council document and silver Jubilee commission for mission.
He however challenged the youth not to sit back arguing that they are the future of the Church alone but continue working hard towards the missionary work even now.
“The future of the Church here is bright. The present too is bright as well but there is a lot more that the young people can do in the Church even now,” said the Apostolic Nuncio.
Archbishop Balvo said that the foundation of the church depends on how committed the Church is in letting the youth understand the importance of mission and the Catholic faith at a young age.
“When I was invited to attend the celebrations I wasn’t quite sure who will be here but I see there are many children who are already learning about the faith and they are the ones who will continue as they grow up to make the Church and this county a better place. I am glad to be part of it,” concluded the Apostolic Nuncio.
