JUBA AUGUST 4, 2015 (CISA) – The Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference (SCBC) will join other members of the South Sudan Council of Churches’ in Juba from August 4-7 to discuss the status of the Council’s peace plan.
The Secretary of South Sudan Bishops secretariat Fr Charles Abbud said on Monday that they have started receiving some Bishops and Apostolic Administrators who will be part of the meeting to collectively face the crisis the country is undergoing.
Fr Abbud said the meeting is also “an opportunity for the Bishops to dedicate resources and wisdom to help the national government realize peace and pray for the people of Western Equatorial who are facing insecurity.”
The Secretary called on the people of South Sudan to stay hopeful that the Catholic Bishops will come up with good ideas that will benefit of the whole country.
The South Sudan Council of Churches (SSCC) in April this year unveiled a peace plan to help the warring parties end the conflict that has distabilized the country.
SSCC comprises leaders of various religious denominations including the Catholic Church who handle matters civic education, advocacy, peace and reconciliation, relief and development services.
Sudan Catholic Bishops conference in their previous meeting chaired by Archbishop Paolino Lukudu Loro of Juba called for peace and described the war as “evil” in the country.
South Sudan has been rocked by cyclic retaliatory ethnic violence since December 2013, between forces loyal to President Salva Kiir, and those aligned to his former deputy Riek Machar.
