NAIROBI SEPTEMBER 29, 2015 (CISA) – Bishop Anthony Mukobo, Chairman Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) – Commission for Clergy and Religious has challenged consecrated men and women in urban areas to go out and send missionaries to the grass roots.
“Open your walls here in Nairobi and go out and communicate the Good News to the people. Form your people here but let them have pastoral experience outside in different places such as Malindi and Lodwar,” said Bishop Mukobo of the Catholic Diocese of Isiolo.
The prelate was speaking during the just concluded National Conference on Consecrated Life held at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) September 22 – 26.
The prelate called on the consecrated people to emulate Pope John XXIII who prior to opening the second Vatican council said “I want to throw open the windows of the Church so that we can see out and the people can see in.”
“The more you stay in one enclosed place the more you suffocate your charism,” warned Bishop Mukobo adding. “I want to give you that challenge to become missionaries because the Church is missionary by its very nature. There are places where we are needed.”
The conference was organized by KCCB– Commission for Clergy and Religious, in collaboration with Tangaza College, the Association of Sisterhoods of Kenya (AOSK), and the Religious Superiors’ Conference of Kenya (RSCK) and hosted by CUEA, as part of national events organized for the Year of Consecrated Life.
It brought together archbishops and bishops of different dioceses in the country, major superiors of institutes of consecrated life and societies of apostolic life in Kenya, representatives of priests and clergy and religious from all the dioceses and representatives of institutes of consecrated life and societies of apostolic life in Kenya.
