KENYA: MPs Invite Pope to Address Parliament

NAIROBI SEPTEMBER 4 2015(CISA) – Catholic lawmakers have requested Pope Francis to address MPs when he comes to Kenya in November.

The lawmakers made the request at the Vatican in Rome when they met Pope Francis during the annual International Conference of Catholic legislators on August 31.

Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa and vice Chairman of the Kenya Catholic MPs, who was part of the delegation, said they lobbied and expressed hope that His Holiness Pope Francis would address the Kenyan Parliament.

The Kenyan delegation however did not get a response as the Pope’s team was considering the request, reported Star Newspaper.

The International Catholic Legislators Network Conference brings together all Catholic MPs from Europe, America, Asia and Africa. More than 100 legislators attended this year’s forum.

Catholic legislators worldwide meet yearly to discuss critical issues in line with their legislation work based on Christian doctrine.

Pope Francis will begin his first tour of Africa on November 27 in Kenya. He will also visit the Central African Republic and Uganda.
