KENYA: National Conference on Consecrated Life Begins in Nairobi

NAIROBI SEPTEMBER 22, 2015(CISA)-The national conference on consecrated life will officially begin at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) tomorrow September 23 to 26.

According to a statement sent to CISA, preparations for the main conference already took place today  at Subiaco Spirituality Centre and Dimesse Sisters in Karen, Nairobi.

The three-day Conference will be graced by the Vatican-based Prefect of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life, João Cardinal Bráz de Aviz.

Executive Secretary of the Religious Superiors’ Conference of Kenya (RSCK), Br David P. Mahoney called on the superiors to consider registering their members by September 18 to avoid last minute rush.

In a message addressed to the Superiors of the various religious congregations and societies in Kenya on the necessary preparations for the conference, he said “Superiors, please don’t wait until Tuesday’s meeting at Dimesse to remit your own payment and that of your confrères.

He clarified that the conference will be “open to professed religious men and women and all the clergy,” adding, “novices and postulants are not included, but they are welcome to attend the closing liturgy on Saturday.”

The conference shall also be graced by John Cardinal Njue, Archbishop of Nairobi and Dr Pius Rutechura, Vice Chancellor, CUEA.

It will be officially opened by Philip Anyolo, Chairman Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops(KCCB) and Anthony Ireri Mukobo, Chairman KCCB- commission for Clergy and Religious(Liaison Committee).

Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya and South Sudan Archbishop Charles Balvo is among the list of key speakers at the event according to the program sent to CISA.

There will be a closing Eucharistic celebration which will be presided over by John Cardinal Njue at the Tangaza University College Grounds on Saturday, September 26.The homily will be offered by João Cardinal Bráz de Aviz.

The select Catholic institutions in Kenya organizing the event include the Commission for the Clergy and Religious of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), Tangaza University College, the Association of Sisterhoods of Kenya (AOSK) and Religious Superiors Conference of Kenya (RSCK).
