NAIROBI NOVEMBER 25, 2015(CISA) – The anticipation is over. It has been a countdown of months, days, hours and now the Holy Father has landed in Kenya.
Hundreds of faithful lined up along Mombasa and Uhuru highway to welcome Pope Francis to Kenya when he began his three-day Apostolic and state visit to Kenya.
“I am very excited about the pope’s coming, and being the first time I am meeting him in person and not on screen, it is really a blessing to me,” Evelyn Atieno told CISA.
Fidelis Kairithia, who had travelled from the Catholic Diocese of Meru said the pontiff’s coming is a ‘privilege for us.’
“We feel blessed and we are eagerly waiting for the message he has brought us,” said Kairithia.
Pope Francis arrived aboard an Alitalia flight. He was warmly received by President Uhuru Kenyatta who later introduced him to the rest of senior government dignitaries and Catholic Bishops.
This marks the genesis of the Pope’s 3-day Africa tour that will also take him to Uganda and the conflict-wracked Central African Republic.
The Alitalia flight carrying the Pope from the Vatican City in Rome touched down at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport at 4.30 PM.
The Pope then walked down the air stair, wearing his usual smile and interesting enough, he was fast.
