MOMBASA FEBRUARY 16, 2016(CISA)-Archbishop Martin Kivuva Musonde of the Catholic Archdiocese of Mombasa on Sunday February 14, opened the Blessed Joseph Allamano Parish in Timbwani, Mombasa.
Speaking during the event that also saw Fr Urbanus Mutunga appointed the parish priest, Archbishop Kivuva said the new parish meant a new dawn for the faithful who have endured long hours to walk to the nearest parish, Consolata Catholic Parish, Likoni.
“Our intention is to ensure that church is closer to the people and to enable the growth of faith among the faithful here in Timbwani and beyond,” said Archbishop Kivuva.
He noted that “the new parish is like a candle being lit in darkness and therefore is supposed to show the way” adding that “it would help attract those who had left the church for one reason or another such as long distance to come back.” “Lets us make the parish an oasis of love and hope and even develop it. This will enable those still behind in this journey of faith come to the church.”
“This is a big gift for the church here in Likoni, Mombasa,” Archbishop Kivuva told hundreds of faithful at Blessed Joseph Allamano Catholic church –Timbwani, Mombasa.
Earlier, Archbishop Kivuva and Fr Hieronymus Joya, Consolata Missionaries Regional Superior, Kenya and Uganda also opened two new outstations of the new parish, St Joseph The worker and St Kizito Catholic church.
“When Consolata missionaries came here in Likoni, the first place they did their Mass was here in Timbwani. I therefore believe that we are just returning the Church to where the first Seed of faith was originally planted,” Fr Joya told CISA.
He challenged the faithful to ensure that the parish grows to the latter by working together with the parish priest in conducting his pastoral duties.
The parish is the 53rd in the Catholic Diocese of Mombasa and the third one to be created by Archbishop Kivuva since his installation as the Archbishop of Mombasa on February 21 last year.
