ACCRA JUNE 10, 2016(CISA) –The Pan-African Episcopal Committee of Social Communications (CEPACS) is calling for closer collaboration with Regional and National Social Communications Offices in Africa so as “to meet the needs of the communication apostolate for evangelization.”
In a Communiqué sent to CISA June 10, issued at the end of the Meeting of the Pan-African Committee for Social Communications (CEPACS) held at SECAM Secretariat, Accra, Ghana June 6-9, the catholic organization urged all Bishops’ Conferences to revitalize their Social Communications offices.
“Following the revival of CEPACS, we appeal for closer collaboration and cooperation between the continental social communications office and the various regional and national communication offices,” read the communiqué signed by Bishop Emmanuel A. Badejo, President of CEPACS and Bishop of the Catholic diocese of Oyo, Nigeria.
The theme of the conference was “Engaging the Modern Means of Communications for promoting Evangelisation in Africa with particular reference to Justice, Peace, Reconciliation and Development.”
The organization praised the Catholic media professionals working in different organizations for the commitment in their respective roles.
“We commend Catholic media professionals and practitioners throughout our continent for all they are doing for the betterment of society. We call on them to witness to their faith with courage through their activities for the evangelisation mission of the Church in Africa,” read the communiqué in part.
CEPACS is made up of Bishops Chairmen for Social Communications of the eight regional Conferences of Bishops that constitute the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM).
The eight regional conferences include: Regional Episcopal Conferences of West Africa (RECOWA-CERAO), Inter-Regional Meeting of Bishops of Southern Africa (IMBISA), Association of Member Episcopal Conferences in Eastern Africa (AMECEA), Association Des Conferences Episcopales De L’afrique Centrale (ACEAC), Association Des Conferences Episcopales De La Region De L’Afrique Centrale (ACERAC), Assemblee De La Hierarchie Catholique D’Egypte (AHCE), Conference Episcopale De Madagascar Et De L’ocean Indien (CEDOI), and Conference Episcopale Regionale Du Nord De L’Afrique (CERNA).
