CAMEROON: Pope Francis Appoints New Bishop of Ebolowa

EBOLOWA OCTOBER 25, 2016 (CISA) – Pope Francis has appointed Fr Philippe Alain Mbarga, as the new bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Ebolowa.

Fr Mbarga is currently the Rector of the Inter-diocesan Major Seminary of Theology in Nkolbisson (Yaoundé) was appointed in October 22 by Pope Francis, reported Fides.

He was born on January 28, 1968 in Obout, in the Diocese of Mbalmayo and has a Doctorate in biblical theology which he obtained in 2003. He was ordained as a priest on December 10, 1994 for the diocese of Mbalmayo.

Fr Mbarga has served the following roles: Studies for a Degree at the Central Africa UCAC University (Yaoundé) between 1994 and 1996 and studies for a Doctorate at the University of Fulda between 1996 and 2003.

He has also worked as a Professor of Sacred Scripture at the University of Central Africa since 2003 and Particular Secretary of the Rector of the University of Central Africa between 2003-2005.

He also was the Rector of the Preparatory Seminary and Inter-diocesan Major Seminary of Philosophy Marie Reine des Apôtres of Otélé, Yaoundé from 2005-2008 and Rector of the Inter-diocesan Major Seminary of Theology Notre Dame de l’Immaculée Conception of Nkolbison, Yaounde since 2008.

He is also the Secretary of the Commission for Apostolic Societies within the National Episcopal Conference of Cameroon.
