KISUMU MAY 16, 2017(CISA)-Archbishop Zacchaeus Okoth of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kisumu has acknowledged Small Christian Communities (SCCs) as a new way of life in the Archdiocese.
The Archbishop was giving closing remarks on May 11 during the closing of a two-day SCCs workshop held in Kisumu.
The Archbishop noted that the SCCs play an important part in the Archdiocese, introducing new ways in pastoral work.
He also praised SCCs for being a source of vocations to the priesthood and religious life and nurturing these vocations.
The training, whose objective was to revitalize and re-energize SCCs as an instrument of evangelizing and pastoral development target priests from the Archdiocese of Kisumu and was attended by over thirty priests.
Fr Joe Healey who was among the facilitators and driving force behind the growth of SCCs in AMECEA region called upon Christians to be self-driven in faith matters as opposed to waiting to be pushed.
He said Christians should take pastoral and social initiatives themselves and cautioned Christians against taking Pope Francis reforms in the Catholic Church as personal projects.
“Pope Francis reforms should not be seen as personal project but a continuation and revitalization of the reform movement that began with the Second Vatican Council,” he said.
He emphasized the Popes’ explanation that the Catholic Church is an inverted pyramid with the people of God at the top and its priests and bishops including the Pope below.
This according to the pope is a vision that sees leadership as a service that engages in dialogue with the world and offers it the medicine of mercy.
