NAKURU NOVEMBER 10, 2017(CISA)- The Conference of Catholic Bishops in Kenya (KCCB) yesterday held a special Mass for the late bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Eldoret, Rt. Rev. Cornelius Korir.
The Mass that was celebrated at the Cathedral of Christ the King, Nakuru was led by His Eminence John Cardinal Njue of the Archdiocese of Nairobi.
Bishop Korir died on the night of October 29 at his home in Eldoret after short illness.
Bishop Cornelius Korir’s body was on November 10, moved to the Sacred Heart Cathedral for public viewing ahead of tomorrow’s burial.
The late Bishop Cornelius Korir will be buried inside the Sacred Heart Cathedral, in accordance with Catholic traditions. The tomb which is 2.9 metres long and 1.225 metres high is located at the Grotto of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a small room behind the altar.
The tomb, similar to a cabin with two opening doors, will accommodate the remains of the bishop inside a casket. Inscriptions of his personal details, including his date of ordination and the date of his death, have been written on an adjacent slab.
“Mkitendee kazi chakula kidumucho” (Work for food that endures) reads the inscription on the slab. The Catholic Church has laid out an elaborate burial ceremony to include some of the most solemn Catholic rituals.
A requiem mass is scheduled for today at 3PM and thereafter will follow vigil prayers until Saturday Morning before his burial.
The Government of Kenya will accord the late Bishop Korir a state burial in honour of his contribution towards peace in the country.
