CAIRO FEBRUARY 5, 2016 (CISA) – Coptic Orthodox Patriarch Tawadros II has said that domestic violence, whose victims are mainly women and children, represent a devastating social phenomenon that has severe effects on people’s lives and also on civil society.
Patriarch Tawadros was speaking at a prayer meeting during the beginning of his visit to the dioceses on February 3, at the church of St. George, in the suburb of Guizeh, which was attended by thousands of faithful.
In his homily, he cited the words of Jesus in the Sermon on the Mount (“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth”) and he stressed that marital and family problems “are to be solved with gentleness” following the evangelical teaching of meekness, essential characteristic of the way of life of those who follow Jesus. Patriarch Tawadros further announced that, from now on, he will visit a different diocese every week, to meet faithful and pastors, and know the needs and initiatives of the various local communities.
