KAMPALA FEBRUARY 9 2016 (CISA) – Inter Religious Council of Uganda (IRCU) has organized prayers for Uganda from February 12 to 14.
The prayers will be conducted for peace, unity and stability of Uganda in the wake of the oncoming Presidential elections that will take place on February 18, IRCU said in a statement.
The prayers will stretch for three days to accommodate the respective religions and their days of worship in respective areas of worship.
Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubajje, Co-Chair of IRCU and the Mufti of Uganda said that the Muslims are also expected to hold their prayer day on Friday February 12.
On the other hand, Seventh Day Adventists will conduct their prayers on Saturday, February 13th. Meanwhile, the Catholics, Anglicans, Orthodox, Pentecostals, Evangelicals and other will schedule their prayers for Sunday February 14.
In his address to journalists at a press conference on the status of the 2016 General Election, Sheikh Mubajje pointed out challenges that have occurred in the past which have threatened the democratic process.
He cited issues such as voter buying, credibility (or lack of it) from the Electoral commission, voter apathy, militia groups and even intimidation. “Do not bribe voters, incite violence or hold voters to their personal desires. Display a high calibre of statesmanship so that you can lead this country to prosperity,” he said.
Sheikh Mubajje called for urgent action from stakeholders in addressing those issues that become of great concern as the polling day advances.
