MALAWI: Cultivate a Special Passion for Evangelization, Priest Urges Seminarians

ZOMBA MARCH 10, 2017(CISA)-Fr Vincent Mwakhwawa, Director of Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM) has called on seminarians to respond with the urgency needed for evangelization.

“The seminarians need to understand the universal mission of the Catholic Church every time. They must arouse a spirit of urgency and passion for the missionary work,” Malawi’s Nyasa Times Newspaper quoted Fr Mwakhwawa as saying March 9.

Speaking at the end of a five day workshop for the seminarians at St. Peters Major Seminary in Zomba, Fr Mwakhwawa urged the Church in Malawi “to equip Seminarians who are agents of evangelization with the missionary formation and theological reflection which is crucial for the growth of the Church.”

He said that PMS would ensure cultivating a special passion in Seminarians for early missionary or Christian formation of children and increase the capacity of Seminarians in missionary animation children.

Fr Henry Chinkanda, one of the facilitators to the workshop said the seminarians must understand that “the Church’s main mission is proclamation of the gospel and this mission is universal.”

“The mission is the identity of the Catholic Church and therefore, you as future priests have to be identified with the universal mission of the Church through your daily Christian living,” he said.

He encouraged seminarians to priorities relationship with Jesus Christ, the Master of Mission, through a mature prayer life; being docile to the Holy Spirit; and loving the church and humanity as Jesus Christ does.
