NIGERIA: Diocese of Shendam Gets New Bishop

JOS, NOVEMBER 8, 2016 (CISA)-Pope Francis has appointed Fr Davou Dung as the Catholic Bishop of Shendam diocese within the ecclesiastical province of Jos in Nigeria.

The 58-year old Bishop who was appointed on November 5, 2016, is at present the parish priest of St Joseph’s Parish, Du in the Archdiocese of Jos.

He succeeds Bishop James Naanman Daman who passed on in January 2015 at the age of 58.

According to a press statement released by Fr Ralph Madu, Secretary General of Catholic secretariat of Nigeria, the date for the ordination of the Bishop is yet to be announced.

Shendam is the first Catholic Mission foundation north of the rivers Niger and Benue in Nigeria.

It was founded by members of the Society of African Missions (SMA) and erected on June 2, 2007.

Born at Kuru Station Wereng Riyon Local Government, Plateau State, Msgr Philip Davou Dung has also been a Vocations Director of Jos Archdiocese (1991-1997) besides being a priest in several parishes.
