VATICAN: Nigerian Fr Anthony Onyemuche Appointed Under-Secretary for Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development

VATICAN CITY, APRIL 18,2023 (CISA)- Pope Francis has appointed Monsignor Anthony Onyemuche Ekpo as the new Under-Secretary of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development in an announcement made by the Holy See Press Office on April 18.

Until his appointment, Msgr Onyemuche served as an official at the section for General Affairs at the Vatican Secretariat of State.

The 41-year-old priest was born on September 24, 1981, in Umudike, Nigeria. He was ordained a priest on July 30, 2011, for the Catholic Diocese of Umuahia.

After receiving a Doctorate in Systematic Theology from the Australian Catholic University in 2013, he obtained a Doctorate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in 2021. On March 17, 2023, he was appointed Chaplain to Pope Francis.

Besides Igbo, the new under-secretary speaks English, Italian and French.
