SOUTH SUDAN: Juba Archdiocese Declares Five Days of Mourning Two Slain Nuns

JUBA, AUGUST 17, 2021 (CISA)-The Catholic Archdiocese of Juba has announced five days of mourning sisters Mary Daniel Abut and Regina Roba of the Congregation of the Sacred Heart Sisters who were shot in an attack along Juba-Nimule Road on Monday.

“On behalf of the Administration of the Catholic archdiocese of Juba, I would like to inform the public that all the Catholic church institutions (Universities, Seminaries, Colleagues, kindergartens, primary and secondary schools) in the Catholic archdiocese of Juba will close for four days to mourn the late Sr Mary and Sr Regina starting from today Tuesday 17th to Friday 2021 and work resumes on Monday 23 August 2021,” reads a statement dated August 17 signed by Fr Samuel Abe the Secretary General of the Archdiocese of Juba.

The two sisters were reportedly in a group of nine travelling along the Juba-Nimule highway on 16 August 2021 when gunmen attacked their bus.

The late Sr. Mary Daniel was the head teacher of the Usra Tuna School in Juba, while Sr. Regina was a tutor and administrator at the Catholic Health Training Institute (CHTI) in the Catholic diocese of Wau.

The requiem Mass and the burial will be on Friday August 20, 2021 at St Theresa’s Cathedral Parish-Kator at 9:00AM.
