MONROVIA, DECEMBER, 11, 2014, (CISA) – St. Joseph’s Catholic hospital of Monrovia, which stopped operations in August after the death of many of its staff due to Ebola, has re-opened.
The hospital is re-opening at a time when the epidemic appears to be slowing down.
According to the Italian online magazine, Servizio Informazione Religiosa, the announcement to reopen St. Joseph’s hospital was made by the Catholic Relief Services (CRS) which has helped the hospital restart services, Vatican Radio reported.
Eight members of staff at St. Joseph’s hospital died in August this year, after they attended to Ebola patients. At the time, the hospital was unprepared for the disease hence the tragic consequences.
The number of infected persons to date stands at more than 17, 940 according to World Health Organization. There have also been 6, 388 reported deaths as a result of Ebola. The epicenter of the disease continues to be concentrated in the three West African countries of Guinea Conakry, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
