KENYA: Church Organization Recognized for Effort in Tree Planting

NAIROBI SEPTEMBER 29, 2015(CISA) –Franciscan’s Mother Earth Network(M-e-Net), a Catholic Church organization has been awarded for the second time in two years over its efforts in promoting tree planting.

The Network was first recognized and awarded by Total Kenya in 2013, when it received a silver trophy for its effort in planting over one million trees.

“Our goal is inspiring enabling Kenyans to plant at least 100 million trees every year. We consider every effort the smallest, the biggest and everyone should be involved in tree planting for the betterment and future of our environment,” said Mrs Ada Eze, Total Kenya Managing Director during the annual Total Eco Challenge Gala awards held at Carnivore Grounds Nairobi, September 23.

Mrs Eze said that Total Kenya was committed towards awarding “people and individuals that have shown outstanding work in growing trees to conserve nature.”

Speaking when he received the trophy, Fr Herman Borg, Patron Mother Earth Network said that the recognition was a “motivation for us as network and the entire member organizations to act especially at this crucial time when nations are preparing to endorse the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.”

“This is a great call for all faiths and religious institutions to get involved in conservation and care for creation just as stressed by Holy father in his latest encyclical Laudato si,” said Fr Borg.

Total Kenya organizes the Total Eco challenge gala awards in honor of tree planting champions of the past year who have contributed towards the attainment of the Total Eco challenge objectives of the year.

The champions include individuals, farmers, community groups, schools, societies, clubs and institutions, organizations, businesses and industries.
