NIGERIA SEPTEMBER 22, 2015 (CISA) –Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) have said that they look forward to the World Meeting of Families in Philadelphia, United States whose highlight will be the concluding Mass of 27 September celebrated by Pope Francis.
“As we look forward to the celebration of the World Day of the Family in Philadelphia from 20 to 27 September 2015, and the General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops in Rome in October this year, we re-affirm the validity of the family as a divinely instituted community of persons made up of a man and a woman, who are open to life in love, together with their children and relatives,” the Bishops said September 18 in a communiqué issued at the end of their plenary.
The World Meeting of Families dubbed the world’s largest Catholic gathering of families expects to host one million people.
The Nigerian Bishops have commended Pope Francis for constantly placing emphasis on the importance of the family.
In the communiqué, the Bishops among other things expressed satisfaction with the recent Apostolic Letters of Pope Francis that reformed the judicial process for the nullification of marriage in the Church (Motu Proprio, Mitis Iudex Dominus Iesus),Vatican Radio reported.
The Bishops have pledged to realize the reforms as recommended by the Motu Proprio.
“We pledge to use this new process for the pastoral and spiritual benefit of our people,” the Bishops affirmed.
