OUAGADOUGOU DECEMBER 1 2015 (CISA) – The former Prime Minister Roch Marc Christian Kabore has been elected president.
He becomes the second president since the country got independence in 1960. About three million people participated in the November 29 presidential and legislative elections.
According to The Independent National Electoral Commission, Mr. Kaboere secured 53.5% followed by former Economy and Finance Minister Zephirin Diabre, with 21.6% of the vote.
Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, won the vote in nearly 75 percent of precincts throughout the country and was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission on December 1, 2015.
Barthelemy Kere, electoral commission president, said 60 percent of the country’s 5.5 million registered voters participated in Sunday’s election.
Fourteen presidential candidates took part in the elections to replace the transition government set up after former President Blaise Compaore was forced into exile in October 2014. The candidates have seven days to contest the results.
