KENYA: Church Marks 13th Anniversary of Cardinal Otunga

NAIROBI SEPTEMBER 6, 2016(CISA) – The Catholic Church in Kenya on September 6 marked the  13th anniversary of the Servant of God Maurice Michael Cardinal Otunga at the Holy Family Minor Basilica in Nairobi.

Speaking when he presided over the Eucharistic celebrations, Cardinal John Njue of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi urged faithful to emulate the deeds of the Servant of God Maurice Michael Cardinal Otunga.

“Be humble like Servant of God. During his lifetime he showed us that humility was an important element that we need to emulate every time,” said Cardinal Njue.

Speaking after the Mass, Bro Reginald Cruz, Vice postulator for the cause of beatification of Cardinal Otunga called on the faithful to continue praying to Servant Of God Maurice Michael Cardinal Otunga  and more so in relation to the current ongoing beatification process on his life.

“How many of you want to see Cardinal Otunga become a saint like Saint Teresa of Kolkata?” asked Bro Cruz.

The anniversary was attended by hundreds of faithful including Water Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa, Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria among other dignitaries.

Cardinal Otunga died on September 6, 2003 at the age of 80 having served the Catholic Church for over fifty years. His beatification cause begun in 2009.
