NAIROBI NOVEMBER 22, 2016(CISA) – A road named after the Servant of God, Maurice Michael Cardinal Otunga, will be launched tomorrow Wednesday November 23 2016 at 2PM.
The Archdiocese of Nairobi in a statement sent to CISA has requested Christians gather at 2pm at the City Hall Annex to join His Eminence John Cardinal Njue in the launching of the road.
The Servant of God Maurice Michael Cardinal Otunga served as the Archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nairobi between 1971 and 1997.
He was born in Chebukwa in the Catholic diocese of Kakamega in 1923 and died in 2003 at the age of 80.
The cause of his beatification is at the Roman phase and he has since been granted the title of Servant of God.
In October 20, 2016 during Mashujaa Day celebrations, Nairobi Governor Dr Evans Kidero honored the Servant of God Maurice Michael Cardinal Otunga, award-winning conservationist Wangari Maathai, former Nairobi city mayor Charles Rubia by naming city roads after them.
Dr Kidero renamed the road between City Hall Annex going past Cardinal Otunga Plaza to Maurice Cardinal Otunga Road, Forest Road to Prof Wangari Maathai Road, while Cross Road was renamed Charles Rubia Road after the first African Mayor for Nairobi.
