KENYA: Bishop Warns Politicians Against Use of Abusive Language

NAIROBI JANUARY 31, 2017 (CISA) – Bishop Philip Anyolo, Chairman of the Kenya Catholic Conference of Bishops (KCCB) has called on politicians to stop using abusive language ahead of the August 8 General Elections.

“They are using abusive language which is destroying our identity. Let us use good language that can build our nation and promote peace,” said the bishop at a ceremony January 29, for the final transfer of St. Don Bosco’s relics to the Mary Help of Christians Shrine in Upper Hill Nairobi.

While calling for peace and unity among all Kenyans and politicians, the bishop urged Christians to follow the example of St. Don Bosco by showing mercy and being compassionate to vulnerable youth.

Archbishop Charles Daniel Balvo, the Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya, who presided over the ceremony, echoed the bishop’s sentiments.

“Jesus called other people to continue with the work he had begun, to be good shepherds who would shepherd people according to the heart of Christ.  One of them is Saint Bosco who cared for the street children and the young people,” he said.

The relics of St. Don Bosco have been on a worldwide tour of 130 countries from January 2009 to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Salesians of Don Bosco and his 200thbirthday in 2015.
