NAIROBI MARCH 7, 2017(CISA) – Archbishop Zacchaeus Okoth of the Catholic Archdiocese of Kisumu has warned youth against causing violence in the August 8 General Elections.
“You have a lot of energy which can be geared towards the development of the Catholic faith as well as assisting those who are in need especially the sick, aged and those who are physically challenged instead of being influenced to cause violence,” said the prelate in his homily at the National Catholic Youth Centre at the Mji wa furaha in Nairobi on March 5.
Speaking while presiding over the Annual National Catholic Youth Mass, Archbishop Okoth urged the youth to be the custodians of peace.
He warned against tribalism and called on the youth to embrace love to everyone irrespective of their tribal affiliations, colour, or race.
“God didn’t create bad tribes, all of them are good but we only blackmail them,” he said urging the young people “to be firm in their faith in Christ and extend their love to all.”
The theme of this year’s National Youth Mass was, For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and holy is His name (Luke 1:49).
The celebration was animated by the youth from the Catholic Archdiocese of Kisumu.
The event started by a guard of honor mounted by the Riwo Parish Youth Band from Kisumu Archdiocese followed by blessing of the newly constructed Stations of the Cross and grotto at the centre.
Kisumu Catholic Archdiocese Youth Chaplain Fr Evance Juma, other diocesan youth chaplains, invited priests, diocesan youth coordinators, members of the National Youth Council and over 4,000 youth across 24 dioceses attended the event.
