NAIROBI MAY 23, 2017(CISA) – Tangaza University College in Nairobi is set to host an International Conference on Sustainable Security and Peace in Africa on the theme, “Moving towards Sustainable Security and Peace.”
According to Bernedetta Kariuki, the event coordinator, the conference that will run May 25-26 will bring together speakers and panelists from parts of Africa, Europe and North America to discuss peace practices and share experiences.
“The conference is an effort to create synergy among peace building practitioners and share the successful best practices in peace and security that can be replicated in Africa,” Ms Kariuki toldCISA in a phone interview.
“The significance of the conference on Sustainable Peace and Security is based on the reality in the African continent of perennial and new conflicts and therefore creating the need for sustainable peace and development,” she said.
Tangaza University, a constituent College of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) has been planning for the event since November 2016 when they made a call for submission of papers.
The papers on Political and governance: contestations of violence, Global source and circulations of violence, Social economic factors of conflicts, Climate change, Gender and conflicts and Management of democratic elections in Africa will be presented during breakaway sessions in the conference.
UN Resident Coordinator Siddharth Chatterjee will open the conference on May 25 and it will be closed by Commissioner Dr Joseph Nasongo, representing the National Cohesion and Integration Commission(NCIC) Chairman Francis Ole Kaparo on May 26.
Archbishop John Baptist Odama of the Catholic Archdiocese of Gulu in Uganda are among religious leaders and educationists expected to attend.
