NAIROBI AUGUST 22, 2017 (CISA) – Bishop Maurice Muhatia Makumba, Chairman Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), Commission for Education and Religious Education has said government’s decision to institutionalize chaplaincy will improve evangelization of young people.
“Structured chaplaincy service is an answer to our prayers. Through the chaplaincy service, evangelization of young people will be enhanced and emotional, social and spiritual challenges they encounter addressed,” said Bishop Muhatia.
Bishop Muhatia was speaking today during the Catholic Schools Principals’ Association (CASPA-Kenya) 4th Annual Conference held at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) under the theme “A Catholic School – A hub of Integrity.”
The bishop was speaking in relation to the government’s decision through the Ministry of Education to institutionalize chaplaincy service in all learning institutions including primary, secondary and tertiary by January 2018.
“In line with this demand we are in the process of identifying and conducting interviews for qualified personnel and we shall recommend and appoint the successful ones to your schools in line with the government requirements,” stated Bishop Muhatia.
He further said that these chaplains shall have the title “Teachers Chaplains” and they shall head a department of chaplaincy in various schools.
“These will be men or women who are prepared to take care of the pastoral and spiritual needs of the children,” added Bishop Muhatia.
