NAKURU JANUARY 16, 2018 (CISA) –Governor Lee Kinyanjui of Nakuru County has called on all road users especially motorists to adhere to traffic rules and regulations in order to avert road accidents.
The governor was speaking January 13 during the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru Golden Jubilee held at ASK Nakuru National Show Ground.
“Here in Nakuru we’ve hard problems of road accidents, especially at Salgaa which has got bad reputation due to the many Kenyans we’ve lost there. I ask all road users; drivers and passengers, to follow road rules to prevent further loss of lives,” said Governor Kinyanjui.
Hundreds of Kenyans have died in the recent past due to road carnage, the worst incident being the one at Migaa along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway where at least 35 people were killed.
Governor Kinyanjui said that the government will do its part to curb road accidents but also challenged citizens to play their role in ensuring road safety.
“Even when we are calling on the government we also have our duties as citizens and I want ask all of us to be cautious on the roads,” he said.
While congratulating the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru for their milestone, the governor noted that the Church has been steadfast in carrying out development as well as promoting peace and justice.
“The Church is going to be a close partner in our plans. We are going to work with the Catholic Diocese of Nakuru especially in implementing all our development projects,” said Governor Kinyanjui.
“Many will remember when there were clashes here in 1992; the Church was on the forefront in bringing about peace. Even last year during the elections campaign, our bishop (Bishop Maurice Muhatia) was on the forefront preaching peace and reconciliation and advocating for good campaigns,” he said.
“As a result, I am happy to say that in our county there were no electoral related skirmishes that were reported, we thank the Catholic Church and we shall continue to work together in the future,” added the governor.
