NAIROBI, JUNE 8, 2018 (CISA)-The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) has joined the families and friends in mourning the death of 10 people who perished following a tragic plane crash.
The plane crash involving flight Flysax occurred on Tuesday June 5, while on its way to Nairobi from Kitale due to bad weather.
In a statement signed by Bishop John Oballa, on behalf of the KCCB and released to the press on June 8, the bishops directed the government to initiate investigation to determine the cause of the plane crash.
“In this sad moment, we wish to express our sympathy, thoughts and prayers as the Catholic Church in Kenya and call upon the investigative agencies to speedily establish the cause of the accident that has claimed ten lives of our beloved Kenyans,” said Bishop Oballa who doubles up as the chairman of Catholic Justice and peace Commission.
In the statement, he lauded the rescue team which worked to retrieve the bodies from the crash site at the Aberdare Mountains point.
The rescue team composed of Kenya Wildlife Service, Kenya Red cross, local Kenyans and many other volunteers.
Bishop Oballa however called upon the disaster management authority to step up and relay timely information in the event of tragedy so as to prevent unnecessary loss of lives in future.
“We call upon the relevant authorities concerned with safety measures to always ensure proper information is given and rules adhered to for purposes of protecting the lives at all times,” he said in the statement.
In the spirit of brotherhood, he appealed to Kenyans, “…to always show up when there is need to support others, this way, we shall be our brothers and sisters keepers and that is what the lord teaches us.”
