NAIROBI, MARCH 10, 2020 (CISA)-The Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) has directed its lecturers to develop online teaching modules for courses offered in the current semester in preparation to teach students from home in case of an outbreak of corona virus in Kenya.
“I hereby direct all teaching staff to develop online teaching modules for all the units they are teaching this semester so that they can be uploaded to the university academic online platform,” CUEA Vice-Chancellor said in a notice released on March 10.
According to the notice, the lecturers have up to March 20 to submit the online teaching material in soft copy to the in-charge, blended programs section of the university.
This are among the measures being put in place to contain the spread of Covid-19 in case of an outbreak in Kenya with nine African countries; Egypt, Algeria, Nigeria, Morocco, Senegal, Tunisia, South Africa, Togo and Cameroon already with confirmed cases.
This comes in the aftermath of a meeting by the standing committee of the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar (SECAM) in Nairobi from March4-7 which noted with concerns on the growing number of infections around the world.
“We express our sympathy for and solidarity with those who are infected and affected by this strange epidemic and pray that an effective and affordable treatment of this disease may soon found,” reads a statement signed by Philippe cardinal Ouedraogo, the SECAM president.
They asked faithful to adhere to the instructions given by the civil and Ecclesiastical authorities regarding corona virus and further called for the adoption of “highest level” of preventive measures to curb the spread of the disease.
According to the World Health Organization, Covid-19 has claimed 4,028 lives and 114,549 confirmed cases in 100 countries globally.
