MPIKA, APRIL 27, 2021 (CISA)-Pope Francis has appointed Fr Edwin Mwansa Mulandu as the new Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Mpika.
“I want to officially announce a communique from the Nuncio to Zambia and Malawi, H.E. Archbishop Gianfranco Gallone that His Holiness, Pope Francis has appointed Fr Edwin Mulandu, 52 of Ndola Diocese as Bishop of Mpika Diocese,” Fr Winfield Kunda, Zambia Conference of Catholic Bishops (ZCCB) Communication Secretary announced April 24.
Fr Edwin Mulandu was born on July 15, 1969 in Mufulira, Catholic Diocese of Ndola.
He attended the Emmaus Spirituality Centre Preparatory Seminary (1990-1991). He continued his philosophical formation at Saint Augustine’s Major Seminary in Mpika, obtaining a diploma (1991-1994).
From 1994 to 1998 he attended the Theological Institute of Saint Dominic’s Major Seminary in Lusaka, where he obtained the Baccalaureate.
He was awarded a Bachelor of Divinity degree by the Pontifical Urban University and a Master’s degree in applied ethics at St Augustine’s College, South Africa (2008-2011), and attended a BPP Professional course in Dublin, Ireland (2005-2007). He is also a Licentiate Member of Zambia Institute of Chartered Accountants (ZICA).
He was ordained priest on August 4, 2001 for the Catholic Diocese of Ndola.
He has previously served as Parish vicar in Masala (2001-2004), diocesan bursar in Ndola(2001-2005),parish priest of the Christ the King Cathedral (2004-2005),parish priest of Saint Michael’s in Kalulushi (2007-2010),bursar and lecturer at Zambia Catholic University (2007-2013, 2009-2013),Parish priest of St Peter’s, Kitwe parish (2013-2015), Vicar Forane of the deanery of Kamfinsa, and member of the Presbyteral Council and the college of Consultors in Ndola (2014-2015).
Until his appointment as bishop, he was serving as national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Zambia.
