DAKAR DECEMBER 4, 2015 (CISA) – Archbishop Benjamin Ndiaye, of the Catholic Archbishop of Dakar, On December 8, will launch a project promoted by Caritas Dakar to tackle poverty and the illegal migration of young people in the suburbs of Pikine.
The official launch of the initiative will be held at the local town hall, in the presence of the administrative authorities, religious women and local traditional leaders, reported Fides.
The project, which will last for two years, is funded by the Catholic Diocese of Rottenburg Stuttgart in Germany for a total sum of 145 273 000 CFA francs and is done in collaboration with the National Secretariat of Caritas Senegal.
According to Caritas Dakar, the aim of the project is to reduce poverty and the illegal emigration of young people, by improving the economic and social situation of vulnerable families in four areas of Thiaroye, department of Pikine, as well as the empowerment of young people on the dangers of illegal emigration and its consequences on the national economy.
The program will involve over 194,000 people will see 100 families benefit from the food distribution, while 100 female-headed households will receive funding and training to start a business.
