KENYA: Bishops Launch Year of Mercy

NAIROBI DECEMBER 15, 2015(CISA) – Bishop Philip Anyolo Chairman, Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB)  launched the year of Mercy at the Kenya Catholic Secretariat on December 10, 2015 two days after Pope Francis declared the Year of Mercy in Rome.

During the staff weekly Celebration of the Holy Eucharist, Bishop Anyolo of the Catholic Diocese of Homa Bay expressed gratitude to the Holy Father Pope Francis for declaring the year of Mercy calling on the faithful to reflect, open their hearts and let Jesus Christ inn.

The Holy Father Pope Francis declared the Jubilee year of Mercy on December 8, during the Solemnity of Immaculate Conception until the 20th of November, 2016 during the Feast of Christ the King, said Bishop.

In his Homily at the Catholic Secretariat, the Bishop Peter Kihara of the Catholic Diocese of Marsabit said  that the Pontiff symbolically opened the door of mercy at St. Peter’s Basilica to the whole World and at many other Cathedrals’ across the world the doors of mercy will be opened by the Bishops on Sunday  December 13, 2015.

Bishop Kihara said that the Holy Father has also given permission for the Dioceses that feel that their faithful live far from the Cathedral to have the doors of the shrines and Parishes open.

The Holy Father Pope Francis declared the Jubilee year of Mercy on December 8, 2015, during the Solemnity of Immaculate Conception until the 20th of November, 2016 during the Feast of Christ the King.

According to the Bishops, the Holy Father has granted special authority to all the bishops this Jubilee year and He has given special authority to all the priests to grant absolution for the sin of abortion.
