NAIROBI NOVEMBER 17, 2017 (CISA) – “Let the Education you acquired in University provide solutions to the problems that the society experience,” Bishop Maurice Muhatia Makumba, Chairman of the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) told graduands on November 17.
The Bishop was speaking during the 36th graduation ceremony that took place at the main campus in Lang’ata, Nairobi.
The ceremony saw 913 PhD, Masters and Undergraduate students graduate in different disciplines offered by the university.
In his speech, the Bishop urged the students to embrace the catholic identity and to become ambassadors of the Catholic Church.
“CUEA has entrenched truthfulness in its philosophy as it seeks to transform all its students, to enable them to go forth into the world, with an aim of building of humanity by providing value based development in pursuance of human dignity for all under God,” he said.
He stressed on the university’s need to promote truth and human dignity in the society by having all its programs value inclined, sentiments echoed by the Vice Chancellor Prof Justus Mbae.
“Looking at society, one cannot avoid getting scandalized; the poverty Africa is experiencing today is shameful and despicable,” said Prof Mbae.
“CUEA has been and continues to be successful in fulfilling its goals, especially with regard to offering value based, transformative, quality education,” he added.
The Guest of Honor was the Chief Research Officer at Centre of Microbiology Research at Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) Professor Elizabeth Bukusi.
Prof Bukusi in her speech challenged university graduates to further their studies to be at par with the current competition in the job market.
“Do not stop learning. Take a keen interest in investing in education,” she stressed.
She commended the University for producing graduates who grow to become leaders in Africa’s spiritual Economic and political confines of society.
