NAIROBI, AUGUST 14, 2018- (CISA)-Bishop John Oballa of the Catholic Diocese of Ngong’ has reiterated the stand of the Catholic Church against the use of contraceptives.
“The use of contraceptives is against the teachings and doctrines of the Catholic Church and a sin before God,” said bishop Oballa in his homily during the Archdiocese of Nairobi family day celebrations held at St Mary’s Msongari on Saturday, August 11.
“This year as we mark the Golden Jubilee of Humanae Vitae, a guideline by Pope Paul VI on the life of a human being, stressing on marriage life and teachings about the family, it is time to reflect on these teachings and their relevance in our lives as Christians today,” he said.
Bishop Oballa was the chief guest at the event that was hosted by the Archbishop of Nairobi John Cardinal Njue, and his auxiliary Bishop David Kamau. It was attended by the faithful from the 14 deaneries of the Nairobi, priests, men and women religious of the archdiocese.
“This is an important year for the Catholic Church. It is a year for renewal of our lives in Christ through his teachings,” he added.
John Cardinal Njue on the other hand urged faithful to in a special way pray for the country, its leaders, and for the citizens to be ambassadors of peace.
“We should see a reflection of God in our neighbours and not judge them by where they come from. That need for recognition of the dignity and living as brothers and sisters,” he said.
The archdiocese of Nairobi holds the Family day annually to raise funds towards the development programmes of the diocese.
