FORT PORTAL, MAY 6, 2022 (CISA)-The Catholic Diocese of Fort Portal, animators for this year’s Martyrs Day celebrations is calling for financial support towards meeting the Ugx 1 billion budget for public celebration in Namugongo.
“We continue in a special way to appeal to you all people of goodwill, to support Fort Portal Diocese in realizing successful and fruitful celebrations. With your spiritual, financial, moral, social and all kinds of support, we shall be able to meet our Ugx 1billion budget, which is very much needed for the success of the occasion, the statement reads.
The statement signed by Rt. Rev. Robert Muhiirwa, bishop of the diocese of Fort Portal, acknowledged that with president Yoweri Museveni’s pledge of Ugx 500 million and another Ugx 200 million already mobilized from well-wishers the budget has a shortfall of Ugx 300 million.
The bishop is therefore inviting people of goodwill to join a fund drive initiated by the diocese towards raising the money.
As part of the preparations, a group of Christians from Fort Portal Diocese living in Kampala and the surrounding areas congregated at Kitante Primary School in Kampala on May 1 to mobilize for spiritual and material support.
On May 2, a fundraising dinner was organized at Protea Hotel and graced by the Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt Hon Robinah Nabbanja.
Through their souvenir Magazine, the diocese is also intending to raise more funds in form of advertisements from institutions and organizations.
The public annual Martyrs Day celebrations resumed after 2 years of suspension of public gatherings to contain the spread of COVID-19.
