NAIROBI, MAY 10 2019 (CISA)-The Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB) has expressed concern over rampant cases of suicide and murders among young people in the country.
At a press conference held May 10 in Ruaraka, Nairobi, the bishops said that the rising cases of reckless deaths should concern all Kenyans.
“We are also confronted with a worrying trend where a number of our people especially the youth, are taking their own lives while others have been murdered in bizarre circumstances never heard of,” the bishops said in a statement read in part by Archbishop Philip Anyolo, chairman of the KCCB.
The bishops noted with concern that the hard economic times, and unemployment levels and lack of role models in the society, are causing the youth to get frustrated and fall into depression.
“Our young people are increasingly descending into depression out of frustration in their lives, either from lack of gainful employment or poor guidance from their families, close friends and community. Young people are looking for role models in the society, men and women of integrity worth emulating, what sort of role models are we?” He posed.
“Unless we all come back to our senses and seek the right way, the peace and stability we so far experienced will be a thing of the past,” the bishops warned.
In the past few months, there has been numerous cases of young people committing suicide and young lovers murdering each other over unexplainable domestic feuds.
