KENYA: Consolata Missionaries Community holds Requiem for Fr Franco Cellana

NAIROBI OCTOBER 2, 2015 (CISA) – The Consolata Missionary community in Kenya on Wednesday September 30, held a requiem Mass for the repose of the soul of the late Fr Franco Cellana who passed on September 24, at the National Cancer Centre of Milan, Italy.

Fr Cellana was the immediate former superior of the Consolata Missionaries in the Kenya and Uganda region. He had also served as a missionary in Italy, Spain and Tanzania.

He died at 73 years of age having served for 52 years of Religious Profession and 48 years of priesthood.

President Uhuru Kenyatta in a message of condolence that was read by Kristina Pratt described the late Fr Franco Cellana as a devoted missionary admired by many.
The president said news of Fr Cellana’s passing on reached him with deep sorrow.

“Fr Franco Cellana was an incredible holy man. A dedicated missionary admired by all in Kenya and indeed admired by many in East Africa where his Missionary activities brought relief and happiness,” said the President.

“Over the years that I have known him, as a Consolata Father and as a friend, he left his mark of love and humility upon me. A quality that has touched me as deeply as I am sure has touched all of you who knew him and loved him. We will all miss him so much,” he added.

Fr Cellana was buried in his home town, Tiarmo di Sopra, Trento, Italy on September 27.
