KENYA: Maralal Diocese Launches Five-year Strategic Plan

NAIROBI FEBRUARY 28, 2017 (CISA) – Caritas Maralal has unveiled a new strategic plan that highlights the activities and goals the diocese aims to achieve by the year 2020.

Christened ‘The New Dawn’; the Strategic Plan 2016 – 2020 consists of five major pillars namely, Food and Security, Access to basic Services, Justice and Peace, Organizational Strengthening and Disaster management.

Speaking February 27, during the launch Bishop Virgillio Pante of the Catholic Diocese of Maralal said the strategic plan is inspired by the Church’s push for peace and reconciliation in the diocese.

He attested that Caritas Maralal has played a great role in the diocese’s mission of restoring peace among the warring communities.

“I thank Caritas Maralal for being competent and being able to carry out peace activities without my constant involvement,” said Bishop Pante.

The bishop added that political leaders have been a big part of the security problem especially during the election period and urged them to shun divisive politics.

Caritas Kenya President, Archbishop Martin Kivuva commended Caritas Maralal for the good plans they have put in place to transform lives in the diocese.

“I want to congratulate Caritas Maralal because this is exactly what our Pope is telling us; to go out there to the suffering majority. I believe the impact of the Church in Maralal will leave that place totally different,” he said.

Speaking at the same event, Evans Onyiego, Director Caritas Maralal, noted that Caritas has made it their mission to promote a transformation of the society where they can enjoy their rights and with envisioning a family united in Christ.

“We called our strategic plan ‘The New Dawn’ because in this new dawn we want to bring about transformation of empowerment telling the people of Maralal that yes we can do it,” he said.
