July 10, 2026 (CISA) Catholic journalists have undergone a capacity-building training ahead of the 21st AMECEA Plenary Assembly, preparing them for professional, ethical, and impactful coverage of one of the region’s most significant ecclesial gatherings.
The training, organised by the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops, Commission for Social Communication, in partnership with the Media Council of Kenya, focused on understanding the AMECEA context, the role of media in the synodal journey, responsible journalism, digital content creation, and storytelling approaches that will help amplify the voices and experiences of the Church across Eastern Africa.
Participants were also encouraged to uphold the highest standards of ethical journalism while communicating the life and mission of the Church through accurate, balanced, and engaging reporting.
The 21st AMECEA Plenary Assembly, held under the theme “AMECEA’s Synodal Journey with Young People,” will bring together bishops, clergy, religious, and lay delegates from the AMECEA member countries to reflect on the pastoral mission of the Church in Eastern Africa. The Assembly serves as the Association’s highest decision making forum and provides an opportunity to discern common pastoral priorities, strengthen collaboration among local Churches, and deepen the Church’s synodal journey.
The gathering places a special focus on young people, inviting the Church to listen to their experiences, accompany them in faith, and recognise them as active partners in evangelisation and the mission of the Church.
Through Catholic media, journalists will play a vital role in documenting and sharing stories of faith, hope, dialogue, and transformation from the Assembly with audiences across Africa and the wider global Church.
