MACHAKOS FEBRUARY 10 2015(CISA) – Archbishop Charles Balvo, Apostolic Nuncio to Kenya and South Sudan has said consecrated men and women are here because they gave themselves to God, which is a gift.
“We are here because we know this is a gift too, this is a way of serving,” said Archbishop Balvo on February 8 during the annual diocesan pilgrimage at Our Lady Komarock Shrine in Machakos.
“All of us have examples of all these priests, brothers and sisters who have helped us in our lives, to lead us to know about God, and who use all the different ways in which they serve God; some of them are in parishes, in hospitals, and in schools. These are the gifts that come to us from the Holy Spirit,” he said.
The occasion also served as the closing service of The Year of the Family and the launching of the Year of the Consecrated Person.
“We are celebrating two gifts today, first is the gift of the family and second is the gift of consecrated life,” said Archbishop Balvo who was the main celebrant at the event.
“We thank God for the gift of family life, we thank God for the gift of witness of so many of you who help your children to grow in faith and we thank God for those children that when they grow up they answer God’s call, and they give themselves to God and their lives as consecrated people; as priests as brothers and as sisters.”
The event brought together people from all walks of life including priests, religious sisters and brothers, students, and faithful from the 72 parishes in the Catholic diocese of Machakos and beyond.
