KENYA: Priests are Full time Agents of God says Bishop Okombo

NAIROBI, FEBRUARY 19, 2015 (CISA) – Bishop Emmanuel Okombo of the Catholic Diocese of Kericho has said priesthood is a full representation of God.

“To reveal God is there to reveal God is alive, is active, is in you and is with you, look at the priests. Priests are fulltime agents of God,” said Bishop Okombo during the priestly and diaconate ordinations on February 14 at Consolata Seminary, Langa’ta.

“To all mind kind God wants to be known and wants to be close to every person… unfortunately, we human beings are so used to things that we see, we touch, we hear and what we don’t see sometimes people take it as not existing,” the prelate said.

“That is why God uses signs, visible things and visible people to represent him,” said Bishop Okombo who was the main celebrant of the occasion.

“Priests are doing the work Jesus was doing, physically and visibly trying to reach every person and bringing every person to God.”

During the event, six seminarians were ordained deacons and nine deacons received the order of priesthood; seven from Consolata Missionaries and two from Camillian Missionaries.

Bishop Okombo further urged the priests who responded to the call to be genuine and focused and to “work very hard to really fulfil the revelation of God” since priests represent Christ today especially after going through the formation and “through deeper revelation with God.”

While congratulating the newly ordained the bishop thanked their parents, relatives, congregations, and personnel who inspired and helped them to seek God and the vocation.

“God has called you brothers to be priests, we congratulate you for responding and discovering among all the careers all the callings, you have discovered God is beckoning you to come and serve him and live as priests.”
