KONONGO-MAMPONG, MAY 26, 2015(CISA) – Bishop Joseph Osei-Bonsu, President of the Ghana Catholic Bishops Conference has urged Christians to dialogue with other faiths, especially muslims.
Bishop Osei-Bonsu said Christians are required to listen to Muslims about their beliefs to communicate the gospel to them in a way that does not provoke their anger and hatred, Ghana’s Daily Guide Newspaper reported.
“In Christian-Muslim dialogues, both sides must take great care to respect the principle of religious freedom with its implications, including external and public expressions of that faith,” Bishop Osei-Bonsu said when he opened the Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong’s first Synod May 25.
The synod’s theme is: “The Catholic Diocese of Konogo-Mampong in Retrospect: Prospects, Challenges And The Way Forward.”
He said: “We must denounce unfair policies and practices and the lack of reciprocity in matters pertaining to religious freedom.”
Bishop Osei-Bonsu of the Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong noted that the church needs to be concerned about the environment within which they live and proclaim the gospel.
“The destruction of the ecology has already had disastrous effects on our lives and yet our forest continues to be depleted. The flood disasters in parts of our country indicate that the irresponsible and unrestrained human activities can have disastrous effects on our environment, human life and property,” he concluded.
