NAIROBI, JUNE 26, 2015 (CISA) – “The Vatican has formally contacted the government about a visit to Kenya in November. The government has responded in the affirmative. We look forward to this historic visit by the Holy Father,” President Uhuru Kenyatta’s spokesman Manoah Esipisu said June 20.
“You heard that the Pope is to come …It has now been confirmed that Pope Francis is going to pass here on his way to Uganda,” Archbishop Peter Kairo of the Catholic Archdiocese of Nyeri said June 23.
Archbishop Kairo was speaking in his homily, during Mass to mark the annual Consolata feast day in Sagana on June 23.
Pope Francis is expected to visit Uganda and The Central African Republic in November 2015, as his first African tour since he became Pope.
On June 12, Pope Francis confirmed his November visit to Africa. He made the announcement during his meditation at the World Retreat of Priests in Rome, reported Zenit.
“In November, I will be in Africa: first in the Central African Republic and then Uganda,” he said.
The Holy Father also said that there might be a third stop in Kenya, but it depends on “organizational issues at the moment.”
Pope Francis had previously announced his first visit to the African continent during his flight back from his Apostolic Visit to Sri Lanka and the Philippines in January.
