LILONGWE AUGUST 18, 2015 (CISA) – Visually impaired people in Malawi, will receive support from the Catholic Church in a plan aimed at boosting participation in the Church activities.
The support which will include supply of necessary stationery will be done through The Association of Visually Impaired Catholic Christians (AVICC), Vatican Radio Reported.
Fr Henry Chinkanda, who was speaking on behalf of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM), said that the Catholic Church in Malawi is “pleased to have this association” since before it began in 2013, there were no channels to reach out and assist members.
“We heard your idea to form an association some time back and today we are pleased to note that it has been materialized. This will make it easy for the church to reach out to you,” Fr Chinkanda told the AVICC.
Samson Chima AVICC manager said the organization’s members have the capacity and willingness to contribute to the Church but they are impeded by the lack of access to material and information, which they will now provide.
Chima said that because “members are not given enough information on the Catholic teachings and values” they tend to join other Christian faiths.
